Beyond Anger into Love

Anger is a powerful friend and ally if you understand her and work with her lovingly.  I’ve found that when I break down anger to its elemental form – it is the Fire element overwhelming all the other elements – Earth, Water, Air and Space.

Yoga Illumined, Amma, Shelli, Nanette, Liz, Sumukh, Kristina LanuzaWhen I channel the Fire element properly, I melt iron into lava.  And good change happens.

When I don’t channel the Fire element properly, I destroy peace.  Now, this is a power we all have as Yogis – to be able to turn all anger into a creative force that literally moves mountains, creates peace and healing.

I was inspired by this On Being article with Sharon Salzberg and Robert Thurman on changing anger into love:  It’s a beautiful look into the non-passivity of love – and the channeling of anger into a healing force.  They look at the old proverb – most popularized by Christianity:  “Love your enemies.”  And how this can be actualized in our world.

This is from Robert Thurman:  “We can now take responsibility for the enemies who torment us, since hurting us is their involuntary reaction to their fear that we will harm them or their subliminal memory of our having hurt them in the evolutionary past.

So not only should we not be angry with them, but we should feel remorse that we affected them so negatively in the past and caused them to live in such pain.  Here we begin to enter the realm of patience as active forgiveness.”  MORE HERE.

May we never make enemies of one another, destroying our togetherness.

Om shantih, shantih, shantih,
