Light on Brian Henderson, Yoga Illumined 2012

Brian Henderson, Yoga Teacher, Baseball and Yoga, Yoga Illumined, Yoga Teacher Training, Yogafly, Ayurveda, Ayurvedic Chef, Natural Chef, Event PlannerI am having some of Brian Henderson’s (Yoga Illumined 2012) delicious eggplant stew with green split peas, fenugreek and braising greens as I blog.  Dave Cohen (Yoga Illumined 2013) and he spent some time working on the art of Ayurvedic cooking earlier this evening.  And I get to partake in the awesome meals they worked on. Lucky me!

Here’s a photo of Brian Henderson as Shiva Nataraja, left-handed pitcher style.  He played minor league baseball and as all great athletes do — at least the ones who realize there’s more to life than being just a jock — found himself on a spiritual journey.   This journey brought him to Costa Rica – to an ashram dedicated to the teachings of Osho for an intensive study of dynamic meditation techniques and Yoga, back to Austin, Texas to study healthy vegetarian and vegan cooking at Natural Epicurean and then in Yoga Teacher Training with yours truly and Zoe Mantarakis.

One of the things Zoe and I encourage in Yoga Illumined is Creativity and offering Yoga in ways that are authentic to your own unique ways of expressing as a human being.  In the Yoga Illumined program, we encourage previous graduates to mentor current students.  And I was delighted to see the email Brian sent out to the Yoga Illumined crews with his diversity of offerings.

Projects in the works:

1) Stephen Dunn, MPT, COMT and Brian are working on three scheduled teaching clinics (yoga training related to breath, Gyrotonic movement, Iyengar, and Sport specific/Athletic movement) coming up at Core Therapy and Pilates on Bee Cave Rd.  Classes and dates tba on www.therapyandpilates.com .  They recently finished a great fundraiser for The Breast Cancer Resource Center of Central Texas, where Brian taught a class on Macrobiotic and Ayurvedic cooking for breast cancer survivors.

2) Brian and Mark Jaeger are actively signing people up for Yoga Explosion, a full weekend of yoga and pyrotechnics at Stunt Ranch Austin on November 8-10 weekend.  Ayurvedic meals provided on site for Friday night, Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday lunch. Chai and snacks throughout.  Contact Mark Jaeger for volunteer details, or to sign up go to www.jaegeryoga.com.
3) Brian will also be coordinating and running a few retreats/spa excursions next year from Austin to the Apline/Marfa & Dallas areas for three and four day excursions in 2014.  Yoga classes, dynamic meditation, mantra and spa passes included.  We will have travel options for flying from the Austin airport or for chartered bus.  Suggested lodging list provided with the option for prebooked lodging included in workshop cost.  Course details, deposit amounts and dates to be announced.
