The Joy of Meditation

Meditation is the practice of cleaning out the mind.  The mind, interestingly enough, gets cluttered with all sorts of garbage – and a lot of this garbage gets accumulated unconsciously because this world we live in is constantly projecting and suggesting images and stories.  The world will always do this – it is its nature.

And meditation is the practice of not identifying with any of the world’s projections.  Meditation is literally a de-cluttering, a purging, a full release inwardly, a deep sense awareness, and the fruit of it is Joy.  There’s this wonderful understanding that meditation brings that nothing is Real or permanent except for love.  And love is a constant state of deep, abiding, everlasting Joy.

Ramana Maharshi, Sumukhi, Yogafly, Meditation, Yoga and MeditationThe beauty of understanding who you are through Yoga practices, is that all the fluctuations of energy, heat, cold, tempers, moods that perpetually flow through us as sentient beings, are not who we really are.  A yoga practitioner is able to work within the realms of fluctuations of heat and cold internally and externally without identifying with any of it through meditation.

Meditation is the great medication.  It is better than meds because it is not dependent on the body’s physiology, yet is proven to alter the body and the mind in a positive direction.

This morning I practiced Tratakam – gazing into the eyes of Ramana Maharishi, Bhagavan’s photo.  I love meditating with enlightened beings, true Gurus.  In Bhagavan’s eyes, I drop into the immense beauty of timelessness.  Eternal bliss.

Try it for yourself.  Here’s his picture.  I cannot even begin to explain how many times I have dropped into Bhagavan’s gaze and felt ease, deep tranquility and peace.  Here’s his message for us this morning, “All of this is within you.”

May all beings experience the Joy of Meditation.  It is the Joy of being your Self.  It is the Joy of existence.  It is the Joy inside.

Om shantih om,
