Yoga Illumined and Ayurveda

“Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit. When one is free from physical disabilities and mental distractions, the gates of the soul open.”  ~B.K.S. Iyengar

It’s Ayurveda month for Yoga Illumined.  What is Ayurveda?  “Ayur” in Sanskrit means “life” and “Veda” means knowledge.  Therefore Ayurveda is the Knowledge of Life and how one stays healthy in body and soul.  Dr. Vasant Lad is a great teacher of Ayurveda whose Ayurvedic Institute is in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  I am particularly partial to graduates of his Institute when it comes to Ayurveda because his program is incredibly thorough and upholds both Western and Eastern medicine.

Yoga Illumined, YogaflyI’ve studied with Dr. Lad at Ananda Ashram and as an ol’ science major, was deeply impressed by his wisdom and emphasis on bringing unscientific, immeasurable, non-quantifiable love into the healing and health equation.

“Dr. Vasant Lad is a true Vaidya, a knower of reality. His latest work, The Textbook of Ayurveda, attests to his indisputable role as the foremost expert in this ancient healing science.”  –Deepak Chopra, MD and David Simon, MD Founders, The Chopra Center for Well Being.

Kerry Meath, Ayurvedic Practitioner, who completed Dr. Lad’s two-year program, will be teaching the Yoga Illumined group some basic Ayurvedic principles this month that help with the daily maintenance of body, mind and spirit.  This Yoga Illumined weekend is so sweetly powerful that it inspired Yoga Illumined 2011 graduate, Ally Rhatigan to pursue her studies with Dr. Vasant Lad and she is currently enrolled in his two year program.

For those of you who would like one-on-one consultation, another Ayurvedic practitioner in Austin, Texas who studied with Dr. Lad is Ivy Ingram – web site link:
