Yogafly Playshop – Arm Balances

Sumukhi, Krisitna Lanuza, Lake Austin, Yogafly, Crow Pose, Playshop, Austin, TexasYogafly loves arm balances, of course.  Back when I was a gymnast, I loved trying to match my arm strength with my leg strength.  Of course, our legs are much stronger and meant to hold up the entire body in standing postures – but our arms can do a lot more than our legs and feet because of the structure of the hand.  Gotta love the opposable thumb.

The key to arm balances like Crow pose, pictured, is a strong core.  We practice the abdominal lock or Bandha – Uddhiyana Banda in order to evenly distribute the energy throughout the body.

Yoga practice is best live and direct.  Heather Oswalt, of Yoga Illumined 2013 at Castle Hill, will be assisting the class and helping you get in touch with your core muscles.
